I was eight years old and I saw a documentary on the making of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Fincher was fascinated with filmmaking from the age of eight, when he began making films with an 8mm camera.
When he was two years old, the family moved to San Anselmo, California, where filmmaker George Lucas was one of his neighbors. His father, Howard Kelly "Jack" Fincher (Decem– April 10, 2003), was an author from Oklahoma who worked as a reporter and bureau chief for Life magazine. His mother, Claire Mae (née Boettcher), was a mental health nurse from South Dakota who worked in drug addiction programs. He also served as an executive producer and co-creator with Tim Miller for their work, Love, Death & Robots, garnered several Emmys including Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Animated Program three times.ĭavid Andrew Leo Fincher was born on August 28, 1962, in Denver, Colorado.

In television series, he served as an executive producer and director for the Netflix series House of Cards (2013–18) and Mindhunter (2017–19), winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the pilot episode of House of Cards. He also directed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), and Gone Girl (2014). He received greater success and Academy Award for Best Director nominations for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), The Social Network (2010), and Mank (2020). He made his feature film debut with Alien 3 (1992), and gained acclaim with Seven (1995), The Game (1997), Fight Club (1999), Panic Room (2002), and Zodiac (2007). He then directed numerous music videos, most notably Madonna's " Express Yourself" in 1989 and " Vogue" in 1990, both of which won him the MTV Video Music Award for Best Direction. In 1986, Fincher co-founded Propaganda Films, a film and music video production company.
