Just an update to help anyone seeing or following this thread. Ridiculous.I do not plan to launch the Drobo Dashboard again, until I see that Drobo does an update that fixes the issue. Just to doublecheck, I launched the Drobo Dashboard again and wiihtout warning the Drobo unmounted with no warning and the app was put back into the login item list again. I hope Drobo will fix the Thunderbolt issue, and the Dashboard app non-function as well. But I miss the Thunderbolt, because I edit video from the Drobo and the USB 3.0 is now dropping frames on playback. “Owners” were “enabled” again and everything went back to normal.
I removed DD Assist and restarted the computer, ran Disk Utility’s First Aid to repair the Drobo. It still hasn’t.So I suspect there was a behind-the-scenes hang-up at startup and a permissions issue caused by the Drobo Dashboard app. The Dashboard was never able to recognize the Drobo. What finally resolved the issue appeared to be going to User preferences in the Finder and deleting the DD Assist as a startup application. I spent hours with Apple Support, as I’m using on an iMac, trying different things. I force quit all the applications, but it still would not unmount. It said that an application was using the Drobo.
From the Finder, I could not unmount the Drobo either. But that permissions repair process failed because it could not unmount the disk. I opened Disk Utility to run a repair and it indicated that ownership was blocked. All the permissions form the info box in the finder looked fine. After I switched to the USB 3.0 cable, my Drobo 5D showed up on my desktop, but I could not write to it.
